Ruminant-Assisted Martian Systems
Developed in Q2–Q3 2026 by Pragya Saxena and Alexa Der for NASA's Deep Space Food Challenge: Mars to Table, RAMS (Ruminant-Assisted Martian Systems) is Heosphor’s foundational architecture for long-duration Martian settlement. Rather than treating off-world agriculture as a series of isolated hydroponic machines, RAMS engineers the habitat itself as a continuous biological metabolism.
It is a fully integrated, 500-sol operational ecosystem designed to support a 15-person crew by cycling local hazards, mission residues, and Earth-provisioned reserves into usable food, water, and medicine.
The RAMS framework departs from legacy aerospace engineering by replacing mechanical life-support machines with a living, interdependent ecosystem.

Our Baseline (For Reference)

The foundational architectural thesis, brownfield refinery logic, and 5-year ecological succession roadmap.
The 500-sol operating manual detailing pressure districts, sensor telemetry, and failure-recovery states.
Additional notes (to be updated with dated versions coming soon).
The crew interface, mapping nutritional constraints, sensory profiling, and renewable materia medica (medicinal plant guilds) to human physiological needs.
Heosphor Open Source
Heosphor is actively publishing the foundational RAMS documentation open-source for the future of biophilic space design. The initial August 2026 release includes our operational manuals, baseline ecological schematics, and individualized crew condition modeling.
CERN OPEN HARDWARE LICENCE (CERN-OHL-P V2.0).
